Joomla! 1.5 + Mootools

It is hard to escape being impressed by the potential of utilizing the native support for Mootools (javascript library) in the new Joomla! release.

Not sure how readily this can be realized in Joomla!
(Much of the JQuery library isn't available in Drupal.)
Amy posted this lengthy list displaying examples from Mootools.

I've already seen a number of Joomla! themes taking advantage of some of this some of this.

All jquery can be used in drupal

What from jquery can't be used in drupal? It may not all come with drupal out of the box but that's not the intent. Jquery is about modularity the same way drupal is. You wouldn't expect to get everything all together.

Yet, you can (and people have) make modules to add the other jquery plug-ins as needed.

The link you posted to shows a bunch of add ons for Mootools. Like, the rounded corners add on. Not everything comes with Mootools out of the box either.

These are both great javascript libraries that fit the systems that use them. JQuery is more a fit for drupals style and that's why it was picked. Mootools is a little different. Both give a lot of power and are popular choices.

Thanks for clarifying things

My initial post might have been a bit misleading.
What I intended to indicate was ....

  1. Although all jQuery is available for coding Drupal modules, only portions are currently accessible via pre-coded modules. The jQuery library includes many goodies I'd happily implement if it didn't require that I start coding a module. ... and ... I'm anticipating similar adoption barriers for Joomla! fans salivating over the Mootools library.

  2. Some impressive "effects" work has been done with Mootools. Working in Drupal recently, I've kinda ignored Mootools, and focused on jQuery.

I didn't intend to suggest any superiority between the jQuery/Drupal combo and the Mootools/Joomla! combo. Both seem impressive.... in different ways. And it's unfortunate that it's a bit tricky to implement both on the same site.

Not for much longer

I't won't be tricky for much longer to implement both on the same site. The newest version of jquery has some features built so it can run alongside another javascript framework.
