Hey all...
So, on this week's podcast episode I profiled the new studio style podcast that I've been trying to get our church to do. Last week we recorded a beta episode to see how it would go.
I'm looking for your feedback!! This episode is not on a feed and is not even public on our church's website (it's currently going to a focus group inside the church for feedback). But, I got permission to post it here for your feedback because, as listeners to the last 2 episodes, you're all "in" on the idea of a church studio podcast and we think you could have some good feedback.
We followed many of the suggestions we laid out on the studio 'casts, and we broke some. I'm very interested to hear your feedback on the following areas:
- Production Quality
- Length
- General Format, segments, etc
- Single Host Format (does it get bland/boring?)
- Topic choices (this will be hard since you're not "in" on our church commuinty
- anything else...
So, please give it a listen and post your feedback in the comments for this post. Thanks for your help!

I like The Six
I really liked this despite not being much interested in the finer points of studio stuff (I couldnt' make it through this weeks G&G podcast).
This seems like a great way to touch the community in what felt like a very personal way. If something was off on presentation or content I didn't notice..... which I gather is the main point behind handling the technical setup well.

I'd Hope It's On
I'd hope the tech for that recording was on. It was recorded on the same equipment we use to record G&G. :-)

Will listen on my way to work
Great! Looking forward to listening to it on my way to work this morning. Will post feedback for ya when I get home tonight. Thanks for making it available.
Comments on The Six Podcast
Production quality: spot on, as I would expect, since it was recorded the same way you do G&G.
Length: probably about right for a weekly podcast. I think you could get away with it a little longer. It's a neat podcast in its current form, but could easily be shortened to a daily podcast if you really wanted to hit "all six."
General format: it works, but I'm not crazy about podcasts where the host introduces each segment. Probably more so with a single host format. Since you're using music anyway, you could possibly add short topic intros in another voice.
Single Host Format: personally, I prefer the conversational tone of a two (or more) host format. Pastor Dion can probably carry off the single host format. I thought he was pretty conversational by himself. I was driving while listening to this, and did drift away a couple of times. Had to back up and listen to one part again, but overall, I think I got it.
Topic choices: with this sort of format and length, you could probably have some set segments that you hit every week, and some interchangeable ones that come and go as needed. I liked the ones you picked.
I think you've got a winner here. This is specific and targeted to your congregation, but at the same time, the things he talked about were general enough to get others (well, at least me) thinking about how it would apply to their own church. What are the similarities, what are the differences, how (sh|w)ould our church respond to this same issue?
I like what you're doing here, and I'd probably listen to it when it launches into full production.

Had a chance to listen to
Had a chance to listen to the first episode on the way to work. I think its a great idea for a church to have something like this.
With all the recent casts on G&G about production quality I can only imagine that there was some picky quality assurance people in the background of things (ehhhem Rob ehemem). Sounds great to me. Catchy little tune for the intro.
Length is good. Then if the content is interesting to me I dont care if its even an hour long or more. I understand there is a sweet spot there for some and I think your right in that area.
I dont mind single hosted podcast but I think in a lot of cases a dual hosted podcasts with different personalities really add a little flavor to a cast.
I did catch myself spacing out quite bit. There didnt seem to be much to keep me listening, but could have been just me being me. I space out to the best of them sometimes.
I am looking forward to the next episodes.
Where we're going...
We've gotten a decent amount of feedback that say just what you suggest: a second host would add a bit of flavor. But, we're actually going to try something which we hope will give the same effect, but make it much more "community based".
We're going to press heavily for people to give voice feedback on questions we ask. Then, the next week, we'll structure the entire episode around those voice comments...essentially adding the congregation as the 'second host' on the show.
We'll see if it works...it's asking alot of the people who listen, but we kinda think we can't have a 'community podcast' and not rely heavily on the community to provide the content.
The second episode (posted earlier) goes in this direciton a little bit, and next week's episode should go that way even further...we'll see. Further comments are appreciated on if there's an improvement from week to week while we try and navigate these issues.
thanks everyone!

The Six Podcast: Episodes 3-4 and Feedburner Feed
Hey guys,
I listened to episodes 3 and 4 of The Six Podcast, and I really like the way the format is working out with Pastor Dion and the phone comments. Each episode left me wanting just a little more, which makes it great food for rumination, which means you're reaching that goal for the podcast. I also think that if the episodes were any longer, it might not work as well.
Once again, as an outsider looking in, I see the value of this podcast not just for the St. Matthew's community, but for the community of believers as a whole. To that end, I followed the trusty feed icon in my address bar and tried to subscribe to the Feedburner feed for this podcast. However, no items are appearing in the feed. This may be by design until the podcast is "officially" launched, but if not, I thought you might want to know about it.

Thanks
Thanks, I'll have to take a look at that.

This is fixed
There was a bad character in the feed that was causing the whole thing to break. It should be all fixed now.

New Episodes?
As I type, I am listening to episode 3. I just checked, and I don't see any new episodes. I hope that this is a result of the busyness of the holiday season, and that new episodes will come around. I think that this is a great tool for your church.

Are you talking about the enhanced version episode 3?
We took the week off for the holiday. The next episode will roll out this coming Monday.

The Six Podcast
Actually, I was asking about the status of the Six Podcast from your church. I was listening to Pastor Dion last night. It seems like it has been a couple of weeks. I am guessing that everyone is busy with holiday stuff.
