Drupal 6 - audio module

I'm on the same page as micah with his comments about the drupal 6 waiting game.

For me, apart from CCK and Views, I'm hanging out for the audio module - but looking at drupal.org it is not at all clear when this module will surface for D6. Am I just way ahead of the curve at the moment (and it will all catch up soon) or am I missing something?

Certainly the theming and other improvements with D6 make it very attractive, but we need to rely on the good nature of the module contributors for the remaining nuts and bolts...

Push Comes To Shove

If push comes to shove on the audio module I'll either write an upgrade or build something else with a migration path. I use the audio module for too many things for there not to be a D6 path.

If you want to put some pressure on try contacting drewish(http://drupal.org/user/34869), the lead on the audio module.

Audio In Drupal 6

The Audio module is one of the modules I've been waiting for, too. I got the impression from the Lullabot podcast that maybe it's time to kiss that one goodbye. This goes back what they were saying about pre-CCK modules no longer being the best way to do things.

I suppose that's partly true. Most of what the Audio Module does can apparently be handled by something like Media Field. While researching this topic, I found that Matt has given this whole topic some thought, too.

Of course, if the audio module goes away, it's going to leave a lot of sites stranded, and so eventually I think it'll get fixed, but that doesn't mean we won't be having the same conversation at some time in the future.

But for me, now is a good time to rethink this and maybe break away from audio module. It would mean rebuilding about 100 nodes on an existing site, but I'm thinking that maybe I want to do that now instead of later, since I have about 500 more audio files I want to add to the archive on that site.

If You Wait Long Enough

If you wait long enough I'll have to do something about this which either means upgrading the audio module or providing a migration path forward.

Also, you can't do everything the audio module does anywhere else in contrib quite yet.

Audio module up

They posted a dev version of the audio module last week. If I remember correctly, it has a dependency on the views 2 module, so I'm sure they were just waiting for Views 2 to solidify before starting the upgrade.

However, I DON'T want to use the audio module anymore, so I'm still waiting for a D6 CCK solution for audio.

No need for the audio module in Drupal 6

I have found that the audio module is not needed with the latest version of Drupal. If you are using CCK/Views you can do it from there. It is much nicer to custom the audio content type than to use the existing audio module content type (which has more information that what I needed).

Bob did some excellent video podcasts regarding this.
