Drupal server hosting

some of the sites I work on can't afford anything but shared server hosting... do you guys recommend anyone? The experiences I've had with shared hosting and Drupal is pathetic. Not just slow speeds but downtime.

A few of us here have used

A few of us here have used Media Temple grid service in the past. It can be good. But there has been some issues every now and then. Overall I think its a good choice for shared hosting. Worth looking into. G&G as well as myself uses the Media Temple dv plan.

I can't say I have used MT,

I can't say I have used MT, but I have recommeneded it to a few people I know looking for Drupal hosting because of the things I know about it from Rob, Matt and you Techmate. Personal testimony makes it a lot easier to recommend that searching through endless hosting web sites.

Serivce/support is what seperates good from bad in the hosting world. All hosts will have problems. It is how they deal with the problems and communicate with end users that are most important.

Support...

I agree with Shrop on this one...all shared hosting is going to have it's issues. MediaTemple sets itself apart by having rock solid and really responsive support.

Their "shared" hosting also isn't really shared, it's more like "raid" hosting with their gridserver approach, so in theory it should be better than other shared hosts (and I think it is, slightly). Granted, you're gonna pay a bit more for their (gs) package ($20/month) but I think, for shared hosts, there's nothing better out there at the moment.

If you can pop for $50/month, I highly recommend their (dv) package...we live and breathe by it.

I use HostMonster

HostMonster and BlueHost are the same company. I use them for all my cheap sites. I definitely have down time, but it's never been longer than a few minutes. The support is actually fantastic. If something is wrong, I call an 800 number, wait less than 5 minutes, and they fix whatever I have a problem with, even if it's my fault.

GoDaddy?

Cool...Thanks for all the suggested hosts... will keep those in mind. The client site I am doing will also include eCommerce and they want to stick with their current host... which is GoDaddy. Have never used GoDaddy but I am cringing at the potential performance issues.
