A few weeks ago I was talking to a seminary professor/pastor about the idea of having a podcast that goes through the bible verse by verse and chapter by chapter teaching it. Going from Genesis to Revelation.
I'll admit that this is something I would really like. Am I the only one? Would you folks listen to something like that?
Either way, I'd be interested knowing what you think. And, not just what you think about doing it but the format as well. My initial thought was 10 - 15 minutes a day and 5 days a week.

There is a time issue
There is a time issue there... and a bible study concern...
First, even at a chapter a day five days a week, it would take you more than 200 weeks to get through the Bible. That's 4 years. If you went verse by verse, or a few verses at a time, which some people prefer. You would be getting closer to 10-20 years to get through the Bible.
Second, Verse by verse is good, to an extent. The problem with verse by verse, is that you end up focusing on a text independent of its narrative housing. 70% of the Bible is story, or narrative, so you might do better dealing with each narrative segment, rather than verse by verse.
Something like that would be nice, but it would need to be well thought out and planned... keep brainstorming
Already on CD
I'd actually expect something like this to take about 5 years. Maybe a little longer. The pace the bible would be taught would depend on the chapter and what it said. Some places require quite a bit of teaching. Others are more self explanatory. How much would be taught would depend on the section in question.
I've been told that you can already buy this on CD. But, I'd like to get it out there for free. It is the most important message after all.
As a podcaster, having 5 years worth of material would be a God send. Especially material that's that good.
And, as a someone who loves to learn the bible this would keep me on track, help get me into a long term routine, and help me to learn more than I would otherwise do. I, also, realize that as a part time bible studier it does take years and years to learn what it says if you want to really dig into it. There is so much there. Anyone who thinks you can get through it and know enough in a short time doesn't realize what a deep work it is.

Were doing that now
At the Church I attend we have been going verse by verse for years on Sunday. The monday night exegesis class goes through the greek text verse by verse. Man..I think it took us three years to go through Ephesians. However we don't always go chapter by chapter in book order. It just depends. I actually prefer this method. The process of breaking down each verse at a time can really help bring it to life for me. The breakdown of the text paints such a beautiful picture. Sometimes I feel were moving to slow and Im like thinking the pastor should hurry up through a certain portion. But more times than not I realize that portion of the text that I thought was insignificant, is more important than I realized. Of course thats me, which method works for me might not work for someone else.
Hear the Bible in a year
The Lifespring Family Bible is a podcast which featured a reading from the Bible almost every day of the year last year. They read the whole thing in one year, and they are running the files from last year on the feed again this year.
So if you just want to hear the Bible in a year, that is a great option.
KJV in audio
...and you can also get an audio version of the King James Version of the Bible, if you would like.
Personally I love that idea.
Personally I love that idea. I currently listen to a couple Calvary Chapel pastors (Jon Courson and Chuck Smith) who have done the entire bible verse by verse, but each sermon is about 1 hr long.
I think it is nice to have an archive where you can hone in on a specific area 10-15 minutes long, and sometimes you'll listen to a sermon on a passage and the angle is not what you expected (because the Word is so multi-faceted!) It's nice to have a few different speakers to cross-reference and really expand the passage.
Hope you end up doing this!

Bible Study Podcast
You might like to check out The Bible Study Podcast. I've been listening for the past few weeks, where a study of Romans (the book, not the people), has been taking place. I've looked through the archives, and it seems that they may not be doing exactly what you want, but it is close.
