I came across this review over on Digital Media Thoughts and thought it might be of interesting to some of you.

They are reviewing the Samson CO1u which is a prosumer usb mike. They seem to think quite highly of it and for those people for whom Pro Tools is far too expensive, this might be a cheap alternative as you could hook this up to Audacity, and still end up with a good sounding podcast.

I have never personally used the product and have no affiliation to the company or the review site. I just though it might appeal to some of the other readers/listeners...

The Standard...

Hey Andy...
Good link. Yeah, this Samson mic is the USB mic standard these days. If you want to hear it in action on a very popular podcast checkout The MacCast. He uses one, and has thousands of listeners.

Another great option is The BLUE Snowball mic. Personally, it's the one I purchased when looking because BLUE is a VERY high end microphone manufacturer, and they made this mic affordable (I always buy my cheaper products from someone who makes a high end version as well...that means they know how to do quality). They are right up there with Neumann in the analog microphone world, so they definately have the experience and knowledge to make a high quality microphone. Just another one to check out.

The key to making these usb mics sound good will be plugins. Make sure you have a system that can make good use of compression and EQ and you'll be able to get a decent sound out of these.
