New Computer

Hello. I am getting ready to build a new computer for my little sound studio...I am running Sonar 6, and would like to go 64bit. Currently it runs a AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53ghz) I think I am going to upgrade to a AMD 6400+ 3.2Ghz x2...but I am unsure of which motherboard to get...I was looking at a couple Asrock mb's but don't know that much about them...I am not that into pc games, so it will be a small 512 gddr2 vid card, and 4 gigs of DDR2 800 ram...plus the sound card, Audiophile 24/96...does anyone have any suggestions?

Board I would purchase

It's a little expensive but for that processor I would choose this board:

Plenty of SATA and built in wireless.

The computer

I actually went with a gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS5 Because I liked the features a little better. I did choose a slower processor as well because of the power requirements of the 3.2...125W vs 65W and the processor is overclockable. So this is the system:
AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ (2.6ghz)
HIS Radeon 512MB Gddr2 PCI Ex16
4 gigs corsair pc6400 ddr2
500gb Seagate 7200.11 32mb cache
dvd burner
Audiophile 2496
Dell 19" LCD

The total price was just under $800, including the ram and video card and LCD.

Computer noise?

I'd be interested in your report on how loud the computer is when running. Am I correct when I read you went with the slower processor... I'm assuming that was so you could get a way with a smaller power supply and less fan noise? I'm not running a dual-core yt, but I got an AMD Athlon 64 and a 939 slot MB so I could upgrade this year. I'd like to get by with my 350W power supply.

RE: Computer noise

I went with the lower speed because 2.6 vs 3.2 wasn't worth the watt spike. I went with a 500W PSU. I am using the stock cooler, and this computer is silent, but I will say, most cpu noise comes from hard drives...especially once they start failing. But this computer hardly makes any noise, even when I load up half life or any other older game I may be playing.
