Drupals input format system is entirely configurable. What you see initially is what's provided out of the box. Truthfully, the PHP format shouldn't be used unless you have a specific reason and know what you are doing. It should only be accessible to admins.

This sounds like the same question I have. I'm trying to copy/paste text from google docs, word and pdf's into book pages (to compile notes into something like a wiki). But none of the formatting sticks. Is input formats the way to retain line breaks, headings, links, etc.? Or have I moved on to a completely different topic?
I am trying to copy and paste a large amount of text in to a story page. It has a lot of different types of characters (i.e [ * ] } ,etc). How do I get that stuff to display? The only options for the Input format are Filtered HTML, PHP and Full HTML. Isn't there a way to post content that is free form?
