Plain Text within a Story Page

I am trying to copy and paste a large amount of text in to a story page. It has a lot of different types of characters (i.e [ * ] } ,etc). How do I get that stuff to display? The only options for the Input format are Filtered HTML, PHP and Full HTML. Isn't there a way to post content that is free form?

Thanks!!

Input Formats

Drupals input format system is entirely configurable. What you see initially is what's provided out of the box. Truthfully, the PHP format shouldn't be used unless you have a specific reason and know what you are doing. It should only be accessible to admins.

similar question, same solution?

This sounds like the same question I have. I'm trying to copy/paste text from google docs, word and pdf's into book pages (to compile notes into something like a wiki). But none of the formatting sticks. Is input formats the way to retain line breaks, headings, links, etc.? Or have I moved on to a completely different topic?

A WYSIWYG

Many WYSIWYG editors can (hopefully) retain formatting. You are looking to not just copy the text but the formatting. Try using something like the WYSIWYG module.
