I highly recommend them.
Our church had a major mens group push over the fall/winter. It was called OneFocus and had two large group weekly meeting along with small groups and some individuals going through the studies. Our blog was perfect to keep the groups going. Each week our men's pastor would post on the topic/chapters of the week and we could discuss via comments.
The blog was pulled for over the summer so I dont have a link to share.

Absolutely
I think blogs are one of the most underutilized tools of technology by the church today. My wife just gave me a copy of "The Blogging Church" for Father's day and I'm very excited to read it.
