Spam Filtering On G&G

Some time ago we started using an unnamed spam service on the G&G website to try and filter spam. That service is Mollom and is now in a public beta testing.

If you are looking for more details I blogged about it at http://www.innovatingtomorrow.....

If you pay attention to the feeds for the forums here you will have noticed that some spam has been getting through. It's often phrases like "Hello! G'night!" and other tidbits like that which make no sense in context.

First, I have been in contact with Mollom about those posts. They know what's going on. Second, we hope they are gone now. We discovered that they were all coming from a known forum spammer and blocked them.

These types of posts are hard to deal with because in some context what was said wouldn't be spam.

There are, also, a number of posts in Russian that are spam and have gotten through. Mollom knows about them and the service has been improving. While it's pretty darn good with english it seem it needs to grow a little bit with Russian spam. Now that the service is in public beta (meaning that the users have jumped in just a few days) it should learn a lot faster now and get better quickly.

So, that's the update to our spamming issues, filtering methods, and the service we are using. If you have any questions or comments please let us know.
