I'm Bad At Colors

Alright, so there are a lot of things in life I hate. I hate shopping, I hate movies, I hate zoos, and I hate choosing colors for websites. That said, I need to pick out some colors for my personal blog, as I'm working on a redesign. The structure will be pretty straightforward, so it won't require anything marvelous...I'm just looking for clean.

My blog is called "LetsMoveToTheMoon," and I'm working to follow that theme with the colors. I'm hoping to use black a lot, but I would like to do so without making the site too dark (I understand that that sounds silly). In the past I've used bright blues, and I kinda like that idea. Here's a blue I'm considering for links and stuff like that:

And here's some other schemes I've considered, although they're all too sad for me. I want happy. Upbeat. You know what I'm saying.

http://www.colourlovers.com/palette/666297/Moonstar

And for the record, I may or may not have searched "moon" on ColourLovers to find those palettes. I'm pathetic, I know.

So, if you happen to like colors and wouldn't mind giving it a shot, I'd appreciate some help since, like I said, I'm hopeless. Thanks!

Try this one

Try this one http://colorschemedesigner.com/ and this one http://design.geckotribe.com/colorwheel/

I usually use the triadic or split complementary colors since they're the easiest not to screw up. I just pick a color I like or one in the client's logo and go from there. Pick a happy color and the others should complement it.

Monocromatic

I would go with a mostly greyscale monochromatic theme, with maybe a touch of a light blue like #a4d3ff. It seems to fit your blog. Don't be afraid of too much black, just make sure the content section is a white, with dark, dark grey text, since it's a blog. Dark background/light text is a no-no for blogs.

Thanks guys. I'm considering

Thanks guys. I'm considering a couple light tans, but we'll see if I end up using them. Might not end up working. I like that blue, and I'll probably use it somewhere. Thanks again!

Go Mono

I usually build a color palette from sampling the main image. So if it’s an ocean view then everything will have that feel. But for you I would suggest monochromatic as well. Drop the black from the header and use the grays in the moon. A splash of color like Tony’s suggestion would go a long way. Then experiment with the fonts. Good typography can really make a site standout. My favorite is alistapart.com.

I'm surprised no one has

I'm surprised no one has mention Kuler. Just remember: Your design should never depend on your color scheme.
