One of the passions I have on my heart is creating a simple way for youth group ministries to create and have their own website. I live in Canada were most of the churches are <500 people with a big church being <1000. Many of these churches don't use any form of web technology except for email, however the youth groups want to have websites for their youth to interact, get updates, post pictures, etc. Most are resorting to facebook, myspace, etc.
I would like to create or be involved in a team that creates a simple social networking site that would meet the purposes of these youth groups. I would want to follow the K.I.S.S. principal and only use a minimal amount of modules.
I have three thoughts on the subject:
create a drupal ministry distribution that is ready to go for someone to install (requires technical know-how)
create a video podcast series that over the span of several months in 1 hour podcasts would teach someone step by step how to make their own website (large time commitment on behalf of the volunteer that would be making the site
create a website myself and use organic groups module to allow a church to setup their youth group at www.domain-name.com/my-youth-g... (requires a large investment of time and hosting money on my behalf, and i'd have to learn OG!
