I've seen a couple people suggest using organic groups for ministry pages on a church web site. Can anyone point me to site that does this?

Thanks,

Most of Rob Feature's newest ones...

I'm sure he'll be on here at some point, he can tell you exactly when he started doing that. You can also watch Matt and Rob's session at DrupalconDC which covered this:

Start with the video

I'd suggest starting with the video that anthony posted from Drupalcon. What specific questions do you have about how we're producing online ministry groups?

Me too

I'm interested in this too.
I started down the path of using Taxonomy for ministries.
Then I saw the recomendations for groups and started thinking that was the way to go.
But, now, I am leaning back towards Taxonomy again. (it seems I flip flop every few hours!)

I watched the videos, and toyed with groups, but I think I can do (almost) the same thing with Views and Taxonomy and permissions/roles.

If panels for OG was ready (Drupal 6), that would be a big plus for groups.

og as ministries

no particular questions, just interested in seeing a site that does this/ how it's laid out. Thanks for the feedback.

As usual I guess it depends a bit on what your requirements are. With OG you get additional stuff for managing group members and out-of-the-box each group manager can look after their group with the help of their admins, but without necessarily requiring help from the main site admin(s) or "administer users" permission etc. Plus there's tracker and notifications functionality. That's probably only scratching the surface.

The bit I've not worked out yet (as in, I need to have a think about it) is how to refine permissions for posting into a group ... see http://geeksandgod.com/forums/dynamic-website-foru....

Always been curious about this

But I'll fess up from the start that I haven't taken the time to listen to those videos referenced above. The main reason I haven't been more aggressive in pursuing this option is that in the past, I've gotten the impression that once you commit to the OG path, there are a lot of modules that won't work with OG unless there is an OG version of the module (i.e. Arlin's need for an OG version of Panels). How serious is this concern?

I've been leaning towards using taxonomy as well with Taxonomy Access Control providing the ability to limit update permissions. Though I have concerns about the long-term future of Taxonomy Access Control.
