Interesting WP Plugins

I have finally caught up with all the G&G podcasts, and while I envision a Drupal site someday (Fall 2010?), I'm dedicated to making the most of the WordPress site we launched a couple of years ago (www.5milechurch.org --- please, be gentle; it's not my day job).

However, G&G has pushed me to try to push the site, and I've stumbled on a few plugins that look promising:

Simple:Press Forums (http://simplepressforum.com) seems to be exactly what it claims to be: simple forums for WordPress. I tend to play with things on my own personal site (www.eggmonkey.org --- I used Artisteer to develop this theme; again, please be gentle) before I launch it on the church's site, and this was easy to install and easy to set up. They have a good tutorial for altering the basic page template to create a "forums page" template. I'm gearing up to launch a community forums page where our ministry teams and other member groups can interact and work together.

Someone else is going to have to be the guinea pig here, but I just found what some have claimed to be the "CCK for WordPress": Pods (http://pods.uproot.us/). New content types is something I haven't really considered, but I can see an application such as a "Bible Study Resource Catalog" coming from this. I think this is my summer project....

Anyone tried these two?

Admin

I've heard that wordpress admin is really designed to be a blog so when stuff like this is added on the admin can get hairy. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Admin Seems OK

As far as the Admin panel goes (Dashboard, whatever), it doesn't seem to be too clunky. It has its own drop down menu in the admin sidebar.

Admin Toolbar

And within that, the Forum Admin is a slick-button based panel. It was pretty intuitive.

Forums Admin

As for administering the forum itself, well, it's only me testing the plugin on my personal site. Once I get it into the church's site, I hope to be able to report back with more experience in it. That said, however, I anticipate it being just as easy to administer users, as they are shared with the WordPress users.
