For www.thegdfc.com I am going with a newsletter approach, but it will be the main function of the site. I am going for this sort of first page approach as well as some of the features: www.godbit.com except the layout and design will be different as well as the content.

I am interested in using a CMS for this and not knowing much about CMS' I am unsure of which will provide a better interface for this sort of approach.

I was discussing with a friend of mine about using WordPress since we know about it more than any other CMS, but when I went researching for something similar to what I wanted to do, I couldn't find anything. W

Which CMS do you think would work best and is not to difficult to learn, Godbit uses Textpattern, and we were thinking about using WordPress. Would WordPress be ok? Or do you have any other suggestions?

From what you say, you should

From what you say, you should be able to use Wordpress if you want to post your newsletters as blog enteries. There are other CMS programs, search the forum for other threads on the topic to get information. You can usually try them out by setting them up on your own computer. Keep in mind that while CMS programs have advantages they all have plenty that can take time to learn.

When you say "newsletter

When you say "newsletter approach" do you mean as in appearance? If what you mean is a 3-column layout, just about any CMS can do that, it's just a matter of the theme and working with the stylesheet. In some of the threads here people seem to have been choosing a CMS based upon which themes they offer, which is a minor consideration. I'm not sure if that is what you're thinking or not.

A better approach to choosing the CMS is the functions it provides, how involved is the administration section, does it offer the features you are thinking of for the site. Most CMS have plugins or extensions to add other features that aren't part of the default setup.

These are the most recent "which one is best" threads here:

My 2cent review:

WordPress is super-easy to customize, many well-done themes with creative layouts. You can easily adapt WP to a "normal" site, i.e. not a blogging site.
Joomla has a steeper learning curve, and is a lot more involved. Xoops ditto.
Drupal seems to be between the two, and is easier to learn than is Joomla.
WordPress is primarily a blogging platform. Joomla and Xoops are typically for membership sites.
Drupal is a mix; you might visit the main section of CWM which is built upon Drupal.

I'd suggest checking out MODx also, which I'm just getting going with but find super-easy to use and with many features.

People here can't tell you which one is best for what you want to do; we can only describe them a little. The choice is yours to make.

Here's the thing. The reason

Here's the thing. The reason I am going to go with WordPress is because I am planning to have the site launched by or before this summer, and we know more about WordPress than anything else. Also, is we are able to create a non-blogging normal site, then that works out well. We will just have to design everything the way we want it and work with WordPress. I will not disregard your help though and I will take the time to look at the links that you provided above. Once again thanks for your help and God Bless.

If you have a little money to

If you have a little money to throw at this project, you could always use one of the "revolution" themes for wordpress. This themes have customized both the front and backend of wordpress to make it work more like a CMS that a blogging system. It's worth checking out for ideas anyway...
