www.lunarpages.com has proved to be a reliable hosting service. LunarPages -- like several other hosting services -- offers low-cost web site design services in combination with web site hosting and domain name registration.
But after spending the past couple of weeks getting familiar with MovableType, I am thinking that you might be better off setting out with a content management system (CMS) such as MT or the CMS system used to publish this G&G web site. However, you may to well to search for a hosting service which officially supports the CMS of your choice.
Over the past few years, the distinction between blog and web site has been blurred, as blogging engines have become more capable. With general migration of blogging to the CMS philosophy, the blogging approach may supplant the traditional web site approach for the typical web presence.
Thankfully, CMS such as MT still are within the capability of many of us who who are not proficient in web site design.

There are lots of people who do ministry web design on this site. Were you looking for a program to do it yourself, or help from someone? Do you have a budget/cost in mind? I have some time in the next two months and am looking for new clients. I could get a simple site like you described turned around pretty quickly.
Blessings,
Tony
Economical hosting is pretty easy to find. Personally I prefer AN Hosting, but I am an affiliate. I recommend them to my clients and I wouldn't do that if I didn't think that they'd consistently deliver good service. If you're willing to prepay for two years it's only $6.95/month. I also recommend registering your primary domain name separately and that's less than $10/year with the vendor I recommend.
My business is building websites in Drupal. So, of course, I'm going to recommend that you use Drupal. Although Drupal isn't the easiest thing to get running out of the box it will give you a platform that you'll probably never outgrow.
Please contact me if you'd like some hand holding to get a site established. I also could build a simple site for you to get going. I really don't want to compete with Tony but I'd be happy to be considered.
Whatever you choose, I wish you success.
Curt
Good luck,

I'd suggest you check out the book "The Website Owner's Manual", which leads an "owner" of a web site through various aspects of the site creation process - not the technical details of HTML/CSS etc, but more of the planning stages of things. You can download the first chapter for free to see if you would like it.
There are really separate rolls in the process of creating a website. Sometimes they are done by the same people but the role or duty is different.
The website owner, in this case you, is a different role from the one that codes it up. We did an episode about the phase before creating the site. We called this phase preproduction. Some developers call this the discovery phase. The episode is at http://geeksandgod.com/episode80.
We host and design church websites. Our costs are very affordable for a custom website, which our designers would work with you to design, the discovery process, which Matt pointed out above.

Hi everyone!
I'm a pastor to medical students/professionals, and am ready to go beyond a blog site to a "real" site. Nothing too crazy, just a blog, and pages about our vision, what we do, how people can become involved, pictures, contact info, giving info, resources I recommend, etc.
I've researched various web hosts, and found a few good ones that are cheap (webhostingpad, dreamhost), but my main concern is -
I want to be involved in designing the site, but don't know html, and don't want to spend a lot of time on the design - that would take away from ministry too much. I want it to look decent, though, too.
What would you guys recommend? Grateful in advance for any recommendations!
Thanks,
Bryan
