Have you tried copy/pasting the text into a text editor, and doing a find/replace on the arrow, replacing it with a space (or just nothing, thus removing any trace of it)? Of course, this would only help if there were no "real" uses of the arrow character in the text.
Well, the problem is, when you click "reply" the arrows show up beside each line of original text. So I would have to do this for every single email - which isn't feasible in the long run. Furthermore, I'm trying to figure out a solution for one of my hosting clients who is complaining of this exact problem.
When I hit reply, I don't want those arrows to be there beside the original text.
This is on a Linux server running CentOS and cPanel. The three webmail clients available are Horde, Squirrel Mail, and RoundCube.
I'll contact the company who I buy reseller space from and who manages the server to see if they have any solutions. I just figured that posting in here would bring out some ideas.
They are actually a great hosting company and I've never had a problem with them. In the next few years, however, IF I decide to build my client base up and go with this web hosting thing ong term, I may get a VPS or dedicated server.

I've been using this free program to rid emails of those "annoying little arrows" for several years. Try it, It's free, and incurs no popups.
This email was cleaned by emailStripper, available for free from http://www.papercut.biz/emailStripper.htm
Hey folks,
I use Webmail for all of my stuff, and for the life of me, can not figure out how to get rid of the small arrows that appears beside any original text when I go to reply or forward an email. Is there any "standard" way to get rid of these other than copying and pasting?
I've tried googling and wasn't able to find much after a few minutes.
I have access to 3 different mail clients, but typically use Horde or RoundCube.
