I'm from CWM too. I guess I'll introduce myself.
I'm Joe,
I'm a follower of Jesus Christ,
There are 14 people in my family (2 parents, 12 kids),
I freelance with my sister (www.ajwstudios.com),
The languages I know: XHTML, CSS, PHP, and I'm learning MySQL
I've been a member of CWM since February of 2004,
I've learned all the languages I know from guys at CWM
Pleased to meet you all!
CWM = http://www.christian-web-masters.com/.
We brought in their public forums into our own as part of the update. There are a lot of new faces coming over from there.
I'm glad to see so many CWMers coming on over. I was hoping I wouldn't be the only one. :)
Joe, Adrian, iLuke, great to see you guys. I think I saw Jim (JAAulde) in here too. Rob & Matt - don't be surprised if your bandwidth usage increases quite a bit! Thanks again for your work.

Hello fellow former CWM members and hello to the Geeks and God community.
I am glad to see people signing in and checking out the Geeks and God forums. I

I'm a longtime lurker over at CWM. It seems that I always forgot to visit the site yet I knew it was a good resource. I go by CrazyTech, but you can call me Denver (my real name). I work for a web hosting company and I am still working on getting my own firm off the ground for local work. I hope to stop by here more often, I hadn't heard of Geeks & God admittedly.
Hi, guy and gals!
I've been listening to G&G for quite a while and posting at CWM just enough to recognize the user names.
These forums will take some getting used to - following a thread isn't as easy, in my opinion. Matt and Rob have a bunch of energy and are savvy in these druply kinds of things, I'm sure we'll meet in the middle somewhere.
Blessings!
"Why do you think it's harder to follow a thread?"
OK, so my main purpose here is to, hopefully, provide some feedback that is constructive...
Visually, the site is 'pretty', but not easy to read a lot of posts in a thread. Most posts are about the size of Tweets, but even at that length, they still occupy almost a full screen length, leading to lots of vertical scrolling and more eye movement, which slows down the reader. My suggestion, tighten up the vertical spacing
Second, and this is similar to comments on blogs - you have to fill in the subject line on every reply and most subject lines in the same thread don't match the original, or even give you a clue to the discussion topic. Suggestion: Prefill the subject line, but still allow people to modify it, if it helps focus the thread
A standard feature of forums is to subscribe to notifications of new posts in the thread - either as a private message on the forum or as an email. I can also bookmark threads in other forums - here are some options I have at ImpressCMS:
Notify me of new posts in the current thread.
Bookmark this item (no notification).
Notify me of new topics in the current forum.
Notify me of any new posts in the current forum.
Notify me of any new posts (include full text in message).
Bookmark this item (no notification).
Notify me when a new forum is created.
Notify me of any new posts. (Global)
Notify me of any new posts (include full text in message).(Global)
Notify me of post digest.(Global)
My profile here says I haven't posted anything yet, so I can't even get back to my posts quickly.
Quick links to view new posts (with text), newly replied topics, unread topics, unreplied topics. Even the old CWM forums didn't have all these features, which I use quite frequently, because I bounce around a lot of forums. Going back to my subject line comment - the recent comments with varying subject lines don't provide clues to which thread they're in.
Maybe it's because I'm not a Drupal guy and haven't got the groove, but it's my 2 cents
Blessings~
Steve
I'm loving your feedback. Especially since you travel around multiple forums. I'm planning on implementing some more subscription based stuff to make the site easier to follow. This feedback helps me.
Look for, at least, some of these things to be implemented in the next month.
Just wanted to send a cheery greeting to the CWMers. Glad to have you join here. I actually had an account at CWM, but I think I posted all of 2 times about 3 years ago. :-) Listening to the podcast keeps me coming back here with thoughts and ideas so perhaps that will help bring other fringe CWMers out of the woodwork and into active participation.
Steve, I also really enjoyed your forum critique. That was great! It's probably worthy of being pointed at Drupal as a whole. I know they are likely working on some of that in the future Drupal. Matt is probably a good person to be soaking that in.
Like iLuke, Adrian, and others, I am also from CWM (though not much in past), so you might see me lurking around here
Well its time to head out
