Hey GnG folks! I have a question I would like to present you guys as you are all Christians. Would any of you like to participate in a Linux podcast about how to use Open Source in your ministries? We don't have anything setup just yet and it would like not entail anyone having to be anywhere but their own home and the ability to use a sip client or regular phone line to call into a asterisk box. No regular record time has been set yet but we have been thinking about doing this for a while. I have prayed about it and decided it's time we start doing this. Since summer is coming, I am figuring there might be some free time that we could all play with to get this off the ground. So far I am probably going to be one of the panelists and so would Linc Fessenden I think...but I want to have at least 2-3 other hosts who can help get it off the ground.

If your interested, first check out the L4C website at: http://www.linuxforchristians.org/

Lastly, this isn't about how to force FOSS on your church. This is a podcast on how to use and implement Open Source in your ministry. Subjects might include: how to record a podcast with Open Source or how to stream a sermon using Icecast or Butt (Broadcast Using This Tool). Alot of churches get sucked into paying LOTS of money for software where they really don't have to.

I think this would be a great

I think this would be a great podcast. I feel churches and non profit organizations should start looking more at open source and I strongly support this. Open office is a nice set of office tools and it is a shame to see non profit orginaztions and churches not utilizing software like this. Also, thanks for telling me about two new Open source technologies I was not aware of. I am going to go check out Icecast and Butt today..... Interesting :-)

Maybe Interested

This sounds very interesting. I'm a big fan of FOSS when done right and not just because its free.
In the last 2 years I've been on staff at my church I have deployed 2 OpenSuse servers, an Untange server, 4 Ubuntu workstations and a wifi-dog captive portal. Not to mention a few GIMP and open office installs plus my favorite ASSP.
There are a lot of people who fear the support behind FOSS apps and that is their only argument for pay apps. This is going to be the biggest "sell" factor of FOSS and not just their great functionality. There aren't too many churches that have a full time IT guy on staff, let alone an IT guy that likes FOSS solutions.

I'd be interested in hearing more about this idea.

diff between FOSS and Linux

I like the idea but, I have a quick question. Is the podcast going to be based in Linux of FOSS? There is a lot of useful FOSS that runs on Mac and Windows.

Hmm....

Well...as two of us are on the Linux Link Tech Show, mostly Linux however we COULD cover anything. I agree that there's alot of Windows and Mac based FOSS software....BUT guess where most of it comes from! ;-)
