New Kid On The Block

Hey guys, I wasn't sure the appropriate place for an intro, but I thought I should at least make an effort. I was pointed over here by an acquaintance who is very involved in volunteer church work and Drupal. I myself am more experienced in Wordpress, but after a little research found Drupal to be a much better option for my "clientele". So, I figured this would be a great place to pick up some Drupal advice and hopefully return the favor with some computer knowledge. I have 3 servers that I tinker with: Windows 2000, Windows XP, and an ever changing Linux Distro. I also make some gas money (I'm in High School, it gets rough :P) repairing computers and helping setup websites. As a follower of Christ, I love engaging in biblical discussion and have a love for +Christain+ rock. So, if anyone wants to talk music or computers, I'm game. I also am involved in AP Java programming and have an independent study where we take "old" computers, through Xubuntu on them and give them to families in need. *Phew*, I tried to make that as short as possible. All in all, thank you for another safe haven for Jesus freaks on the net!

EDIT: One more little tidbit..For around a year I was the server administrator for Gamers4Jesus.org (Hosted by FT11.com). During that time I maintained a maximum of 8 servers (CoD4, Smokin' Guns, Enemy Territory, etc) and learned alot about networking :) Also, I dabbled with the SSH interface.....

Sincerely,

Holy cow!

Hey Zach,

WELCOME!!!!!!!! Man, you might be the new kid on the block, but you've got lots of experience!

That's great about ya'll taking older computers on it and giving them to families in need.

I don't even know what's new in the "Christian music" scene. I've kind of been out of touch with music the last 10 to 15 years. Well, I'm aware of band names, but I don't know the names with the songs. I usually either listen to U2 now, or a BUNCH of podcasts. People just assume I'm listening to music. So they are shocked to either hear preaching or a tech podcast.

I had iTunes for years until I realized there was something called podcasts. After Napster fizzled, I didn't pay much attention to mp3's for a long time. I've always wanted to learn more about computers and stuff. So I was pleasantly surprised at all the podcasts out there concerning that. Actually the Geeks & God podcast was one of the first ones I stumbled upon. G&G caught my attention because it was done by Christians. G&G does sound a LOT better than podcasts out there. Yes, it is a very educational podcast, but it's more like.. Well I don't know how to describe it. Rob Feature and MF are just really good at explaining stuff. It's like listening to a good friend tech you something compared to listening to some stranger teach you.

Now it's time to get back to reading Drupal stuff

Welcome

@ZachVanDuyn welcome.

What kind of stuff do you build? I started out programming and working on servers. I was more of a FreeBSD guy than a linux guy for servers. Though, I started when FreeBSD was a lot faster than the Linux kernel. Times have changed and they are pretty comparable now.
