I can't say I have been through that. I have been involved in a couple of share-the-building ventures where the church bodies were separate but under the same roof. That was hard enough without stepping on toes.
I suppose I can see a little wisdom in using a new building. It would prevent one congregation of having the "you are on our turf" mentality. you know, it's kind of "new ground for everyone".
But I imagine the whole leadership issue is the hardest to deal with. Curious....is anyone ultimately in charge of the church and various ministries or is there co-leaders?
I promise I will pray for you.

Thanks for the prayers.
The proposed staff is:
- Co-Pastors (Ours and theirs)
- Pastor Emeritus (The father of the Pastor from "the other" church)
- Combined Deacon board (members from both churches)
-"The other" church's Youth Pastor (the one we had moved, which was sort of the reason why talks of this got started)
- Combined secretaries
So is there a new charter (or whatever your denomination uses) that kind of "resets" the churches into this new church?
I hope there isn't much attrition from this. Sometimes these things can drive people away.
The good news is probably that you will have some stronger ministries since you will have more hands-on-deck?

So, my church - is planning on merging with another local church in the area. They're calling it a "blend" though, lol.
The plan at this point I is to sell both buildings, and buy another building for us to meet in.
In the meantime, they're going to be using both buildings. The two churches are no more than a mile from each other, with one of the buildings being larger than the other - more than capable of holding both congregations together in one place. Seems like they're trying to cater too much to the preferences of each church individually, rather than just being one church, in one location, until a new building can be established.
Anyway, I've really been struggling with this idea for some reason. I really have no problem with the two groups of people coming together. I think it's an exciting idea.
I guess I just wanted to maybe ask for some prayer. I sort of feel like there's no real sense of community that is being built, and rather the people aspect of church is going to be lost in the details of which building is going to be used, and who is going to be "in charge" now that there are ministries that are being combined, etc.
Also, has anyone here ever been involved with a church merger. What are your thoughts? Any tips on maintaining community?
