Hey Sean and everyone - just a thought here I had tonight about these forums.

I think its great to have a place for Christian Webmasters/Designers to come together and discuss issues that are important to us, but I think there's an area that's often overlooked among webmasters and yet it's critical to a website's success. Can you guess where I'm going with this? It's Marketing! But I'm not talking about search engine positioning, I'm really talking about the copywriting, and the WORDS you use on your websites to SELL whatever products, services, ideas that you're selling!

Now, I could be wrong here - but I'd imagine that most of us are responsible for everything on our websites, and along with having a nice looking and easy to navigate design, it's critical that your website attracts visitors and keeps them coming back if you want your site to be a success. So many fellow designers I know put all their effort into designing sites that THEY like, and sites that look cool, but they give little thought to what their visitors want to see and what words will draw them into their website and cause them to tell their friends and neighbors about it.

Shoot, I could ramble on for a while about the importance of proper copywriting, but what I'm getting at is I'd LOVE to see a section dedicated to Marketing/Copywriting here, and I think we could all benefit from improving the words we use to sell our websites. (If you don't think your website sells anything, send me an email and we can argue - uh I mean discuss it further!) /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Please let me know your thoughts, and have a great weekend!

God Bless - Steve

Steve, Although I'm not

Steve,

Although I'm not selling any products per se on my websites, I love the idea! I know I could learn a lot in that area. My sites are almost all mission oriantated, so if I could learn some tips that people use to sell products, I could use the tips to sell the site users to my Jesus!!

Sounds like a winner to me!

Hey iLuke - you've got the right idea there! Most people don't realize that they're "selling" whether they're selling tangible products, or they're trying to get visitors to read and see what their website has to offer. I've seen so many websites that fail to tell their visitors how they stand to benefit from spending time there - and if you want them to make it past that first page - you've GOT to give 'em a reason why!

Can't wait to see what Sean has to say! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

P.S. Sean - you're from PA aren't you? What part? I'm on my way to Lancaster tonoght! WooHoo!

Hi Steve: I will add this

Hi Steve:

I will add this marketing forum. I believe it will be an important forum.

Do you mind if I "lift" some of your wording as an intro to the forum?

Thanks for the feedback.

Steve: Would I be off in

Steve:

Would I be off in calling the forum "Promotion and Marketing" ?

With the intro having an emphasis on marketing in general, but also include SEO in this forum? Or do you feel search engines stuff should be seperate?

Let me know.

I think "Promotion and

I think "Promotion and Marketing" would be appropriate Sean, and SEO stuff would probably fall under the same heading. Sounds like a good place to start anyhow, and if it becomes a really popular subject you can always spin it off into it's own forum in the future - right?

Have a great weekend brother!

Steve

BTW - how do you like working with phpBB? I'm trying to decide between using the Invision board or phpBB on a new site I'm developing, and can't make up my mind which I like best! aargh!

Oh - and no prob if you want to use anything I wrote. Although I could probably write something better...I felt I was starting to ramble on a bit last night /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Hi Steve: Thanks for letting

Hi Steve:

Thanks for letting me lift some copy.

I like working with PHPBB. It is pretty easy for me to add mods and my own tweaks. I have not used Invision Board, but it looks like it has great features. I know Matt is using it. Hopefully he will comment.

I'll split this thread off so we can get some feedback directly related to PHPBB and Invision Board.

Blessings:
