Hi Ryan:
That would be a great mission to complete.
Don't let anyone tell you that it has to look Christian just to be a Christian outreach.
Your approach falls along the lines of some suggested outreach methods in the Online Guide to Evagelism.
May God bless the work you are doing.
I hope somone here might see your post and share your vision.
Keep us informed.
Blessings,
Sean
Thanks for the comments, I know this going to be a great challenge to tackle. You can trust me that this isn't going to look like anything christian.
I, too, am fed up with the "anything goes" and "just copy someone else's work" mentality of christian ministries and paraministries. God is the most awesome and phenominal thing that ever existed and I want to make sure the world knows! With a little help from Him and prayer, this should be a great awakening for designers / developers / websavy people who love God.
Check out this thread Hi-Tech Church Sites @ the Christian Webmasters Association ~ CWEB. Our forums are going pretty good, but are rather new. Don't mind the rest of the site, me and the other admin are currently coding a CMS from the ground up for it...
I started the thread, and your ideas are very similiar to my own thoughts, read through the thread and let me know what you think.
FYI: CWEB was originally started buy Laurence Odonnell, but when he stepped down, I got his permission to carry on the ministry.

Hi Souljah777 welcome.
Are you "InHisService" over at CWEB? You were active on the old one too weren't you?
Glad you have found us here at CWM.
I really liked the work that Laurence started and I was sad to see it close. I'm glad you have taken up the mantel, and it looks like you are doing a great job.
I like your forum design too.
Please feel free to put a link to CWEB in your signature here. It may draw some traffic for you. Our audiences are of course very simular so I think our CWM members could benefit from your forum too.
If you haven't stoped by our Introductions forum yet, please do. We'd love to greet you and hear more about you and CWEB.
Blessings in Christ,
Sean Buscay
InHisService = Yeah that's me...
Yes I was active in the old version of CWEB under the same name as well. Truly I was troubled when Laurence stepped down as well. But the Lord knows what He is doing, and I praise God that He chose me to keep CWEB going. I will stop by the intro forum and post some info about me and the ministry and about how good my God is.
Hey Souljah,
I read your bio on CWEB and we do share some common ideas. After I get my site all completed I am going to set up a message board or a Wikki-page to gather ideas on this project. I don't know if it's going to be a new site or a modification/colaboration.
Just trying to think of a cool name is driving me crazy!
Oh well, glad to see you here.
After reading a post about an experience one blogger had with a Christian Dentist, it reaffirmed how anything labeled "christian" needs to fall away from "superiority and cliquishness."
Another good read from XXXChurch is about Christian Wackos.
Check out the awesome use of video on Mosaic's website.
Me too. nothing is worse than seeing a white dove fly across the page...or seeing another WWJD logo. when are people going to learn that those kinds of things don't connect with normal joe's.
as far as i could remember, jesus hung out prostitutes and bars and out of all people...Fisherman. ( das for lukie /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> ).
You have a good vision Ryan.
I do think there is a good market for sites like this, but when they are advanced the demand seems low. This is both good for business, but bad for my vision. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Just by a show of hands, how many members here are actually looking to progress into professional design. And by that, say yes to most of these questions:
(1) Starting or Partnering a design studio or company.
(2) Try to enhance their present skills as much as possible.
(3) Network with other designers/artists/techies in your area.
(4) Go out and research new technologies and tools.
(5) Love change and don't find themselves relucktant to kick old habits.
(6) Have ROI and RIA in their vocabulary.
heheh.... now THAT'S funny!
I identify with some of the things on your list, but God and I are still working out details on some others.
Well, about all I can offer is a bit of encouragement for anytime you feel down and out. God took me from a "hello world" page to a php/mysql driven CMS in about 6 months. I knew nothing about mysql, php or html for that matter. Literally my first page 6 months ago was hello world. *looks back in amazement*.
He is SOOO big and can truly do anything. He's the God of nuns and bikers alike, so take your dream, confirm it with Him and RUN with it!
....hhhmmm.... I think I'm going to copy this message over to my "how do you deal with discouragement" thread that I started and cheer myself up! LOL
cweb-net.org, christian-webmasters.org/,and others have gone away for one reason or another.
CWEB still exists here...
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christian-Webmasters...
and here...
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/christianwebmas...
These places were chosen because they are free and shouldn't go away.
A small core group still exists and we have a few new members. If anyone feels called to help
please join. Most previous members were lost unfortunately with no notification. Maybe they
can find us here.
Thanks,
Bob
Hey guys,
My name is Ryan and I have this crazy idea of starting a new portal / hub / forum for graphic and web designers. I don't know the history or status of this [or other sites] but there doesn't seem to be one thats visually stimulating and resource packed. My vision of a startup is to base methods from these successful sites:
http://www.k10k.net
[ link removed by staff ]
http://www.netdiver.com
http://www.bd4d.com
http://www.newstoday.com/
http://www.linkdup.com/
http://www.computerlove.net/
http://lounge72.com/01/
I don't really want to step on the toes of this website or Niphal. It's just that I don't want to have the typical christian site, which reflects of the typical church. That being hymnals and boring hymns, the colors purple and gold, TBN, "you're going to hell", and etc. My dreams are that this is a "seeker sensitive" site that all will want to join, somewhat the designers equivalent of Relevant Mag.
Maybe there's some who have this same vision? I'd like to hear your visions and comments. I am going to talk to prominent developers in christ and see if they wish to contribute. Bottom line, I welcome your opinions and advice on this idea. I plan on sticking around here more than Flash Kit, so thanks in advance.
