Where to find internet usage statistics

I was recently at a communications meeting with designers from different churches in my area and one of the designers mentioned that she heard that 9 out of 10 people will go to a church website before walking into a church. I want to try to get my church to let me redesign their template-based website and I would like to read more about statistics like this. Prove to them how important it is to have a fresh look online that will give people an idea of how great our church really is and encourage them to visit. Also, I am in the process of trying to get local restaurants to advertise with a site that comes up in the top 5 Google search for people looking for a place to eat in our area and I would like to be able to present some statistics to them as well so that they can see how important it is for them to have some web exposure. Like, say, 49% of all people look at a menu on the web before walking into the restaurant, as an example. (This isn't so, it's just an example of what I am looking for.) Does anyone know a good reference for these types of statistics?

Thanks.

Have a great day!

Context

There are a lot of places to look for statistics. Some organizations collect them, other groups do research, and so on. Some good places to start looking are with the Barna Group, the blog Church Relevance, and with the Willow Creek association. They all either collect stats, do research, or point out things that are coming out and where they are coming from.

This is also in context to groups. It depends on location, generation, and more. In rural Wisconsin it will be different than in urban Denver. Stats that cover a wide area are general information.

Web usage stats

Thanks for the info. I'll have to remember to look for you at the next interactive church conference in Daytona Beach!

Oh, one more thing. What about web usage statistics that aren't church related? I wanted the ones you gave me to try to approach my church but I also design for restaurants and want some info for them. Any ideas? Anyone?
