Most forums use PHP and MySQL to install a forum, same thing with CMS and the Coppermine Image Gallery...And much more. Well, I'll tell you how to install one of these using cPanel (Tested only on X and 11:
First upload all of your files. I would recommend to upload the zip, then unzip it then delete the zip unless you're using it on the main site directory, then use a file transfer protocol of some sort.
Second, before going on with the installation go to the one that is underlined and in orange:
Now create a database and a user with it.
Be sure that all of the files that the installer tells you are CHMODed to 0777. Now when it asks you for your database name, don't just put the name but put your cpanel name too. For example: "cpname_cms1." Add the "cpname_" before your user name also: "cpname_user1."
Now it should be able to connect to the database, have fun!
To 'CHMOD' Go to File Manager, click on the file it tells you to. (The installer will tell you which ones I'm sure). Now click on 'Change Permissions,' After that check everything. Click OK and there you go!
The best FTP (File Transfer Protocol) in my opinion is Fire FTP which is an add on for Mozilla Firefox.
