KJV Bible in XML and SQL

Joined: 11/22/2010

Hello all,

I wanted to share 2 files with this community, since it appears that this system does not allow files to be uploaded at attached to the forum post I posted to Rapidshare.

http://rapidshare.com/files/432588150/bible.sql
http://rapidshare.com/files/432588249/King_James_V...

the XML file looks like this....

<bible translation="KJV">
	<testament name="Old">

		<book name="Genesis">
			<chapter number="1">
				<verse number="1">In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.</verse>
				<verse number="2">And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.</verse>

<!-- THE REST OF THE XML HERE -->

                         </chapter>
                 </book>
       </testament>
</bible>

The sql file was created in MySql version 5.x, and it creates 3 tables.

3 Tables: testaments, king_james_version, books

Books - The 66 books of the Bible
fields: bookId | bookName | testamentId

king_james_version - The verses of the bible
fields: verseId | bookId | chapterNumber | verseNumber | verseText

testaments - simply 2 entries... Old and New, Id's are 1 and 2 respectively
fields: testamentId | testamentName

I have verified that it contains 66 books, 1189 chapters and 31,102 verses. From what I found it is pretty accurate, though I have not verified word for word.

I got the XML file originally from believersresource.com. I fixed a few node issues and imported into database and created sql dump from that.

I hope that some people here can find these useful. If you download them, I would love for you to respond here and say what kind of project you might use them for.

I myself plan on creating an entire web app with it. Verse lookup, read bible in year, verse of the day, RSS feed... etc. Gonna be fun. :)

Later all,

God Bless and have a Merry Christmas

Need this!

Hello Nathan,

Your files seem to be the thing i need. I myself need to create a searchable Bible..have users be able to search by book or verse blocks such as John 3:16 or Jn 3:16 or Jn 3:16-17.

How can I do it?

Thanks,

Copyright issues with NIV

I think you might run in to copyright issues with the NIV since it was recently published (as opposed to the KJV). I'm sure you could get the rights to redistribute it in digital form, but it would come at a cost. I'm no copyright expert, but I almost certain you can't reproduce the NIV in it's entirety without permission.

Bibles in XML (or other machine readable format)

Hi,

I'm looking for different bible versions (and in different languages) in machine readable formats.

The KJV XML in the first post was not available at Rapidshare anymore, could one nice person provide me with these files again? :) And any ideas where I could download other versions in similar structured formats would be amazingly appreciated!

Thanks & Best regards,

Bibles in XML

Hi,
I was hoping to develop a free open source software for reading and referencing the bible. This software will enable normal readers and people reading for sermons with some advance search features, etc. So i was browsing for an XML version of the KJV. I thought I got one... but, I am sorry to admit that the download link provided above does not works anymore.

Please help me get the XML version or an SQL, preferably MySQL 5.* SQL format.

Thanks and God bless you.

Hi All!

I think I have something you need.
I have a MySQL script for the King James version of the Bible.

Just leave a message if you still need it. :)
