One of my server administrators has suggested that we put video courses on the Amazon S3 server since we are expecting a large amount of visitors to be taking the courses. I am a front end designer and don't know much about code writing. Has anyone used S3 for this type of application? If so, what was your experience? Also, we are wanting to restrict access to the videos to those who have registered for them. Needing advice on how to do this as well.

Maybe a CDN

Amazon S3 is really meant to be a storage place. You might want to consider using a CDN (Amazon has one as a complimentary product to S3). These tend to be better for large files. They work by placing on servers all over and people are routed to the closest one. So, you off load the bandwidth costs of the file and you make it faster for people downloading the files.
