Coordination between security program and Outlook Express

I have a persistent nuisance of a problem with the connection to get my email messages in my Outlook Express program. Sometimes the connection works perfectly, but othertimes I get an error message that the "connection failed" or that the "host...could not be found". If I get either one of these message, I can still make the connection and have my mail delivered by going to the "tools" menu for OE and clicking on the "send/receive" link. This usually makes the connection, and the waiting mail is delivered. I used Oulook Express 6, Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 8, and Integrity Online is my ISP. I had this same problem when I was using AVG for my security program. I would like to get rid of this nuisance. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks
