Domain registration

Hi folks

I need some new domains shortly, and recall that here and elsewhere, GoDaddy seems to have been spoken of well, in terms of efficiency and cheapness?

I note that they offer a domain forwarding and masking option.

Does this mean that I could create what amounts to a new website sitting on an existing domain, something like

w w w.myexistingsite.com/newsitename/anypage.html

and get, for users, the effect

w w w.newsitename.com/anypage.html

so that EVERY page of the new website carried the newsitename.com URL in the browser.

If that is so, are there any downsides to it?

Blesslings and thanks

Tony

I don't recommend godaddy

I don't recommend godaddy anymore.

Domain magic is split into 2 parts.
Part one is the DNS system and part two is the web server. Unless you are hosting with the company you register with then they can only do the DNS side properly and pretend on the server side.

With DNS you can have many domains pointed at the same server, and then the server decides what to do with the domain. Your host is very involved in this.

Apart from just pointing a domain at a server, domain registrars and other DNS providers can only do redirects. They host the domain on their server and then use htl tricks to get the domain to point at your space.

They can do a simple redirect where visiting newdomain.com will just take them straight over to olddomain.com and the visitor will see olddomain.com in the address bar.

They can use frames to open olddomain.com inside a full screen frame at newdomain.com

My recommendation if you want to have multiple domains is to find a host that allows it. Some hosts will let you stick multiple domains on one account. I prefer using reseller hosts where I can divide up a certain amount of space between as many domains as I want.

GoDaddy offers free

GoDaddy offers free redirection and only costs $9 a year for a dot com. NetSol is $35/yr + more for redirects and anything else.

Don't listen to anyone's personal agenda. I guess since this is a "christian" labed forum, we need to JUDGE everyone when we (myself the worst of all) have a plank in our eye.

new domian register

Hi,

Each & every company should have their own domain name. But before register & buy the domain name we can check the availability of the domain name & as well as the extension as .com .edu .org .in .co.in etc., you can check the availability in the related links. The domain registration is not easy before register a new domain we have to register with the trusted service. I think the http://www.tucktail.com/ is providing the service.

no go daddy

There are tons of low cost providers out there and most do not use top-heavy models for there advertising. I would suggest not contributing to godaddy's negative image. me personnally, i like what Arvixe has to offer.

Domain and Host

I somewhat agree with what is said about go daddy. With a Twist of Course. When you are looking to host a lot of times the new hosts (Like Dreamhost.com - not trying to advertise) will offer at least 1 free domain registration with a new host. This is usually for the life of the hosting contract.

But in saying this make sure YOU own the domain - if you want to leave you want your Domain Name to go with you.
