Sorry. I was going to suggest Filezilla. I've been using it for a couple of years, and really like it. Never had trouble with it. Used WS_FTP before that. Filezilla, I have 4 panes running. Two on the left show the workstation drives, and on the right show the server directories. On the top show the root level, and the bottom shows the contents, permissions, owner/group, etc. At the very top (I guess you'd say I really have six panes going), shows the server messages, and the very bottom shows the files transferring, speed, etc. Never had problems with corrupted files, or files not transferring. Current versions will show files that failed to transfer. Sorry I don't have any other suggestions. You could try at sourceforge.net and see what else is around that's popular for ftp use.
I use FireFTP and never had a problem with it either. However, I didn't know about a FTP add on for notepad++ so thanks for that... heading over to check it out right now /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I keep trying filezilla, but have never quite liked it. I have also like FireFTP, but it didn't do it for me either.
I have been using SmartFTP since early 2001 when LeechFTP was discontinued. When I first started using XP I preferred the SmartFTP interface over the Windows Explorer one.
I did consider paying for it, but the only thing that kept me using it was that it was free and I was accustomed to the interface.
Right now I am trying out miFiles to see how it works. It requires registration, but is still free (for now).
I used SmartFTP but never really liked it - I think it had a few too many features. I used Filezilla, which is OK, but nowadays I use WinSCP, simply because I was using it for SFTP, which FileZilla couldn't do, and then I noticed I could use the same application for plain FTP as well on my other sites. It's not perfect but it works /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I also used to prefer smartFTP over FileZilla, but made the switch because smartFTP stopped working. I have also tried cuteFTP but it is only free for 30 days. I have just installed goFTP and it seems to be very fast as its website claims, but the installer did not create the shortcuts in my start menu, which was not a good start. I'll probably give a go over the next few weeks.
IMHO WinSCP is the best free FTP/SFTP/SCP utility for Windows. I normally use it with Notepad++ as source code editor. For more heavyweight development I suggest Eclipse with Remote Systems Explorer.

I was so disappointed this morning when I was told to upgrade and then told that I have a few days left before I need to purchase a copy. That inspired me to write this post to help spread the news about some alternatives. Some have already been listed here.
WinSCP is based on FileZilla and FileZilla does do sftp. I've tried several, but still like FileZilla.
I have been using SmartFTP for years because it was "Free for personal use."
For the last few years they have been requiring users to upgrade regularly or it just won't work anymore. Well, today I did one of the required updates and I have 5 days before it shuts off access completely.
I am really interested in an FTP program similar to what SmartFTP was like about 3 years ago. It has been getting worse and worse lately so I won't miss it if I can find something comparably. I don't want to pay $40 per machine (I use 4 of them) for a program that regularly diminishes usability.
I like being able to have at least two separate Explorer like windows open in them. Windows that have the directory pane on the left and the file pane on the right.
I typically tile them horizontally.
Any suggestions (not filezilla).
