Ok, I'm ready for the truth. I've completely reworked our church website and re-launched it a couple of months ago. Our old site was stale and difficult to navigate. This new site needed to focus on information organization as well as highlighting of key areas. I’m new to G&G so you'll notice I've already broken rule #1 – not using CMS. So, with your excellent feedback I can start planning on the next major revision.

Not using a cms?

Hey Jkat!

Generally speaking, I think you have a nice looking site for it not to be a CMS.

What are you running the site with?

I don't have the knowledge to critique it from a designer's standpoint. So I'm just critiquing as a guy who spends way too much time on the Net!

The "New Life Christian Fellowship" logo banner/header thing looks nice, but I really like how it looks on your other pages vs the home page.....How it extends all the way to the right.

I think using a slightly larger font would be good.

I'm not sure how I feel about how your links look up top. It's like the "look" of those links don't "fit" with how the rest of your page looks.

I like how you can tell right away where your church is located.

All those links at the bottom are a little too much. Especially since some of those links are up top in the drop downs.

So hats off to you for having a nice site that is updated. I'm saddened by numerous church and ministry websites that are not kept updated.

Thanks for your honesty!

Hey HoB,

Thanks for the feedback. No system used - straight HTML/PHP, dynamic content thru XML/XSL, and a little jQuery thrown in.

Header Image - Hmm, I felt it was a little tall too. Will tweak the CSS to see how it looks. Will update the font size while I'm there.

Top menu - Will re-think that. I wanted it to contrast the site to make the location pop-out, but I see what you're saying. Will spin it differently. Easy to update as it's an include file.

Footer links - Yes, redundant. How does the web community feel about their use? It's kind of a throwback for SEO purposes, but are they still necessary?

Thanks for your honesty!

By the way...Love the photo!

Good looking

Overall, I like the look!

I understand HoB's comment about the menus at the top, but they don't bother me. I also like the margin effect that they provide and suggest that you put a margin at the bottom of the page so that I know when I've reached the bottom.

Your pages are too wide! Firefox tells me that the viewport has to be about 1047px wide, and the window about 1065px wide, to avoid having a (dreaded) horizontal scroll bar. Admittedly a lot of newer machines have wider screens but 1024*768 is still the most common size so I think it's wise to design for it.

Good job,
Curt

This is why I need you guys!

Thanks Curt! This is why I need you guys! With my nose buried in this project it really helps to have second set of critical eyes. Thanks for catching the width issue. An earlier rev. did have a matching margin in the footer, will try it out again.

Thanks!
