Greetings Game

I've added a new game to biblescouts.com.

The game is called "Greetings." It is a pretty simple game - loosely based on the old "Simon" concept.

I am hoping for some honest feedback...
- Are the instructions clear?
- Could you break it? (If so, were you able to duplicate the error and what is your platform/browser.)
- Do you think kids would dig it?
- Do you have any ideas that would make the game more enjoyable?

Thanks!

Very nice!The only thing I

Very nice!

The only thing I would personally change is to have them each say something different. The voices are great, but the "Hi Hi Hi Hi Hi Hi" can get annoying by a certain level! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I just think that would make it more interesting.

For starters the site doesn't

For starters the site doesn't appear to be viewable in Opera 9.0, at all. It loads, the background color comes up, and that's as far as I get. The game page comes up, so let me see how it goes.

The game page loads and works in Opera 9.0, I agree that the greeting could be changed per "scout", rather than just simply "hi", but otherwise its simple to play. My kids were watching me test and said they wouldn't play it. They are aged 10 and 12. The 10 yr old said she would if there were different sayings.

We sacrifice all that we are and all that we love for the greater good -- the One above.

I'd change the "let's go"

I'd change the "let's go" message when one is already within the game. Seems as if it should appear and after that, "next greeting" or something would fit better.

I thought the beginning loaded a little slowly... some kids might move on before the game comes into view.

Also, is it timed as well as on order? Most people mouse with their wrist on the table, and the extent of the game from the far left scout to the far right seems wide for young hands an arms... to be really agile and fast they will have to take their arm/wrist off the table surface. Which gets annoying maybe.

Also parents might appreciate it if one could turn off the music but still play the game and hear the greetings... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Thanks to you all - this is

Thanks to you all - this is great input!

I have to agree that each kid needs to say something different. It gets pretty annoying hearing "hi" all the time. This fix might take me a bit of time however since I need to gather the kids for some more voice recording. It will be worth the effort though...

Webby,
I think your suggestion about changing the "Let's Go" phrase is great, but I had a question about your comment regarding the opening of the game. Did you mean that the LOAD TIME of the game is too long or did you think that the DURATION of the intro was too long? Either is fixable, but I didn't know exactly what was suggested.

Oh, and I thank you for the music "mute" suggestion. That was a significant oversight on my part.

Lastly,
I have not previewed the site in Opera 9.0 - It obviously doesn't work at this point. Does anyone know where I can find out the percentage of web surfers who are using this browser? I'd really like to fix the issue, but I need to prioritize it in my "to do" list.

Thanks again everyone - keep it coming!

I think the graphics and

I think the graphics and animation are pretty good. But some directions of what we are supposed to be doing (matching sounds, etc.) would be nice. I sort of went into it not quite understanding what I should be doing. Not knowing when the game began.

Neat though! If you fix it up a bit, I'd send it to my nephew and niece.

I got a little confused on

I got a little confused on the directiions the first time I read them, but I am tired so could be me. I like your site and plan on sending it to my grandchildren for their enjoyment!

Keep working on it, it is a great idea.

I agree with Jim. Maybe you

I agree with Jim. Maybe you could have one go "Hi", another goes "Howdy", and another "Hello" etc.

I understood the directions, since you said it was like simon concept.

Graphics are awsome! Good job on the site! Looks awsome! I think my little sibblings would enjoy this

Thanks for this VERY HELPFUL

Thanks for this VERY HELPFUL feedback everyone!

I will address the "HI" issue and tweak the directions a bit.

...Perhaps adding some quick instruction before you begin the game.

OK, I haven't finished

OK, I haven't finished improving the directions yet, but I had to say thanks!

I just posted an updated version of the game with "alternative greetings" and it REALLY makes a huge difference. The Hi, Hi, Hi, Hi... thing got old real fast. Now each of the kids says something different and it seems to be a bit more entertaining.

Thank you for your suggestions!

Oh, and the background music (mercifully) now has an Off button.
