http://www.fbclp.net/

I just did a reshuffling around of some content on our homepage. People wanted to put more content on the homepage than we had room for. I ended up with basically putting everything in slide show of featured images/content as the main part of the page.

Is this a good idea? Does it work? Are they any major drawbacks with this?

simple is good

You'll get people pushing you to put everything on the homepage. Don't give in. Highlights, easy to find, and the slideshow can help the visitors from running away in fear.

I like the look

Generally, I like the look. I think I'd center the header, menus, and footer because, to my eye, the look a little unbalanced. Or, I'd put a picture on the right side of the header, leave the menus as they are, and center the footer.

A couple of technical points. In your blocks, e.g., From the Pastor, I make the picture the link and would consider removing the text links. That would give people a much bigger target and make the text consistent throughout the paragraph.

I like your background image. However at 800 * 600 pixels and 42+ KB I think it's needlessly large. It could probably be cropped to about 1/16 the area without losing anything.

Thanks, for the tips. Not

Thanks, for the tips.

Not sure if you remember how it looked before (here's a jpg of the before), but I gave the site a new look. Same content really, but tried to streamline some of the display.

Not sure if it's any better really, but I tend to like it a bit better.
