Please don't be too tough, I have no webdesign background.

I created this site myself using a public domain CSS style sheet and frontpage. I would actually like to make it look more professional, but not sure where to start. I may try a newer style sheet - perhpas go back to borders for the columns.

I realize many of the reviewers may be men so you will have to deal with the girly colors. Any visual feedback from women would be appreciated,

Hey Carrie, looks a perfectly good basic style to me.

Do consider making your main text sans serif rather than serif (ideally specifying Verdana as the main font. Serif font (ie with the bits on the corners, doesn't come out so well on screen.

I think your headers in the main body, and also in the menu, would look less stark if they were not black. A color, or gray, might work nicely here.

A great way to try out how things look - and also your suggestion of columns, is with the Firefox developers toolbar, which allows you to edit (just within the browser) parts of the CSS and see immediately how it looks!

By the way, if I was not a Christian, and came across your site, I might feel more responsive to your link 'how to be saved', if it was something more like 'how to find God'. Saved is very much a jargon word :-)

Hope this helps

Blessings

I am by no means an expert in design, but I think would add a little more color to the site and spend some time with typography. I love the basic look and feel, but I think a touch of color would serve the site well. Fonts also play a big role in the design of the site, and see how your content appears to be very text-oriented, I would try to make your content as easy to read as possible.

Also, I think you should do something on the left to make your links stand out more. It just appears to be floating text at the moment, if I didn't mouse over them I wouldn't have known at a glance that they were links.

Just my $.02, hope it helps.

Thanks Paul!The layout is

Thanks Paul!

The layout is actually a three column CSS set up but I removed the borders. I was thinking of putting the borders back and put a background color or pattern "beneath". That wold give it some color

I know Tony didn't like the font, but I stared at it awhile and still prefer Times to Verdana. Is the font size too small?

For someone who has no webdesign background, you sure do understand clean, neat and very user friendly weblayouts.

Though might look "plain" to some, its appealing with its fullness of content. A website is about gettings readers/clients and getting them to come back, I think you've done a fab job here.

Font size is also good.
BTW, 'Veranda' is usually a little to wide, 'Arial' is usually best but can look plain. If you want to get funky go 'Georgia'

Have fun.

Thanks Joshua.

I like clean layouts which is why my site looks a bit sparse. I do like Georgia font, but I have tried to stick with fonts that most browsers will recognize. I'll have to see if Georgia is now a "universal" font.
