Music & Worship Resources

I'm pastor at a confessional liturgical church (LCMS) and am contemplating branching out into more blended and contemporary formats. I'm looking for some good resources for choosing music for various occasions and other service planning resources, like community websites or email groups. Given that this is only the second topic posted in this particular forum, this is clearly not the definitive place.

Any suggestions?

CCLIs Community Site

CCLI is a service provided to churches that helps them stay "legal" when doing copyrighted songs for worship. It's awesome. They have many, many tools, including a community-oriented site at http://www.ccli.com/CCLITV/

Also their SongSelect service is fantastic. It provides you with chord charts, lead sheets, and sheet music for over 60,000 songs, as well as lyrics for most of their collection, which is well over 500,000. All songs are catalouged based on themes, so type "Communion", or "Father", or "Faith" into the search box, and it will bring up all the songs that are associated with those themes. Then, you can filter them based on a number of categories. Really helpful.

CCLI will be a necessity if you plan on projecting lyrics or printing bulletin inserts. They have a graded payment scale, based on church size. Most churches pay less than $100 a year for the license. Song Select ranges from an additional $70 to $165 a year, depending on the features you want. It is entirely web-based, as well.

Also

I'm located in Lima, Ohio, about 2 and half hours away, if you need more hands on help with equipment and such. I lead worship at a church in the area here. Used to work as a full-time music pastor. Now I do television production.

I must admit, I like leading worship better now that I'm not a "Pastor"

Anyway, love to help if you decide to go this route.

We did get a CCLI license &

We did get a CCLI license & SongSelect Premium, although I'm wondering why we need chord sheets when we have lead sheets, so next year, we'll probably drop the chord sheets additional fee.

I didn't realize CCLI had a community section, so I'll definitely check that out.

And thanks for the offer. I may just be in touch.

Chord Charts

Many of the guitar players and bass players (and even some keyboard players) prefer to have the chord charts over the lead sheets, and many of the chord charts print on a single page, so no page turning, which is a plus. Then there are those who are just freaked out by not having notes on the page, lol. The lead sheets are for them.

Well, as we start our band, then, I'll have to get a feel for which they prefer & decide whether it's worth it.
