Why would I want to use this instead of the commercial companies not targeted at churches that do the same thing? This is a question I'm curious about for 2 reasons. First, you have to be able to answer this to market yourself well as an organization. Second, I'm curious why we would need a church version of this?
We have been thinking the same thing. Not sure if we want to offer a commercial version, then offer a free service for 501c3 groups. Just wondering if anyone would use a free service if offered to churches. Also you would have the peace of mind knowing that your church content is stored on a server dedicated only to church content.
Sorry I'm late in the discussion, I don't visit much at all. But wanted to say that I've been using something very similar to this called www.dropbox.com works on both mac and PC and you can sync folders on your computer to your account. It's also free... so really if people didn't now of that site or sites like it.. then possibly they'd go for your version... but really dropbox is awesome and I currently have 2gigs free. The more people you invite to it, the more they up your storage.
Hi All!
I was in a meeting today and we are bouncing around the idea of offering free and paid file hosting services for churches. The idea of the service would be simple, upload a file, get a URL to the file, and you can link to it. The free version would come with size limits and you would have to deal with some ads on the site, but the paid version would remove all ads and would give you more space.
Is this something as designers, developers, web guys, you would be interested in?
We run our servers on Rackspace servers that are very similar to Amazon EC2 type servers.
Thanks for any feedback!
Jesse
