As Mac users, we jab this guy quite a bit...but as people, he has gained our respect.

This past week, Bill Gates announced he's leaving (or partially leaving) Microsoft in order to focus on philanthropy full time. This is an incredible thing for the world's richest man to do. It's really encouraging, in this day and age of materialism and corporate ladders, that someone this high up the rungs is stepping down because of a tug on his heart...Let's hope and pray that more follow in his footsteps.

MF takes a couple minutes to talk about this story, focusing on the ways that Gates is using his money and his foundation to help the world's poor and try and make a difference in ridding the world of disease and poverty.

Take a listen...

Gates

Thanks for going into a bit of detail on the Gates family giving. I've always heard that they give a lot but never had specifics to it. So the question that came to mind was…does Bill Gates have any religious affiliations? Do any of his writings talk about his beliefs about where we come from and why we are here? Just curious…

The Rich

Thanks for the question Paul.

In the new testament Jesus talks about money more than anything else besides the kingdom of God. Money is a big thing with faith and gets in the way of faith all too often.

This kind of reminds me of Matthew 19 where it is written, "Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.'"

Gates is one of the richest poeple ever (when taking into account money/power/inflation) so it should be no suprise that he is not a believer in God.

Some call Gates and Atheist but a better description based on things he has publically said is that he is an Agnostic.

When interviewed in the past he has said, "...I don't know if there's a god or not..."

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the info...I had never heard (or thought) of Bill's spiritual side. Fortunately for him, verse 26 is still in there!
