Websites that don't suck #8: Advertising your site

5

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialize correctly.

We are the robots...and we crawl your website looking for metadata. If you don't have it, we won't put you in our search results...so get with it! Make sure you're doing everything you can to get the word out that your site is online...

In this final installment of our "Websites that Don't Suck" series, we chat about robots.txt files, metadata, search engine submission, google site map, paid advertising, and tagging on Technorati and Delicious. We also spend a few minutes talking about 'real life' advertising for your site in print media and word of mouth.

But, before we get to all that good stuff, we chat about the fine tuning of the universe and how not to let your designer control the future of your website.

In this week in geek, MF yaps about Baseball players using video iPods, Kids and their technology bubble, CD ROM lifespans and of course, once again, we make fun of the Wii.

So, kick back, grab a slice of cold pizza and a Mountain Dew and listen to Episode #8 of Websites that Don't Suck!

good surfing, my friends.

ID vs Theology

Thanks for the links.

One thing to note is the difference between Creation (as in the bible) and ID. There can be a difference based on the nature of the creator within the ID theories.

ID is more general

Creationism is really just a more specific form of ID.

Intelligent Design says "there must be a creator". Creationism tells us who that creator is and how he created.

It is the misunderstanding of this basic concept that makes this such a big issue. ID is not creationism...it doesn't say who or even 'what' intelligence created all this, therefore it doesn't endorse any religion...it only acknowledges the supernatural (and no more so than a ghost hunter or a tarot card reader).

I think if this was more understood, it would fly through the courts and schools smoothly.

But then....

If you put out in the discussion that there is intelligent design then the next logical question is who/what is the intelligence? How can we solve this question without pointing to God when it comes to schools?

Geeky Juices flowing!!!

1) Enjoyed the podcast.
2) Enjoyed the whole series about websites...learned lots!
3) Looking forward to the podcasting stuff...I'm curious about what you use for mics and mixers and such.
3) Enjoyed the ID and fine-tuning discussions both on the podcast and here in the forum. I've been poking around on the web learning more about Stephen Hawking. I knew he had a disability but I was shocked to find out he has ALS. I've never heard of someone living so long with it. My wife's Dad had ALS and he passed away within 18 months. Think I need to read one of his books just to better understand where he is coming from.
4) Why do I always get a craving for orange cremecicles (ummmm) when I come to this site!!! =:)

Backup

Definitely interested in a cast on backup...just started doing backups to an external usb drive. I'm using syncback which seems really nice but interested in what else is popular. Also interested in some of the web based backup solutions...

"Robots" song

Hey guys, just found your site and am enjoying the website series. The song is by Kraftwerk, circa 1980. What do I win? :)
I know, a free copy of Drupal....

Blessings, -Mark

song

The song at the end of the 'cast must be a later remix of the original. I had not heard that version. Not sure when it was done. Pity they had to resort to remix gimmicks like the typical bands.

I'm Impressed!

Hey Mark....
I believe you're correct...and I'm impressed you got the song!

The version on my original vinyl is different than the one at the end of the 'cast...but I wasn't gonna take the time to rip from the vinyl...yes, I'm that lazy.

Thanks for listening!
