How to Podcast #3: Publishing

So, you're ready to talk to the world? You've got your podcast recorded, edited and authored...all that's left is to create your rss feed, publish your xml file, and we're off to the races!

On today's podcast we talk about authoring your file by using a blog service such as blogger or wordpress. We also chat about software you can get to make your publishing simple and straightforward...programs such as feeder or list garden. We talk about hosting your audio files and offer a few suggestions on picking a host. And finally we chat a little about tagging your podcast and using CMS plugins to help with the publishing process.

But, before all this, we chat about Chatsum and IBM teaching CMS thru drupal. MF gives us "This Week in Geek" in which we banter about Firefox and it's new beta version, and about a guy who traded a paperclip for a house....wow!

Oh, and once more, we give away a $5 gift certificate to an unsuspecting listener....All on this weeks Geeks and God podcast.

LOOK! Up in the sky...It's a bird...It's a plane...it's another episode of the Geeks and God podcast!!

Today we talk about editing and authoring your podcast. We talk about why post-production can make you sound like a pro, why you should record multi-track and remind you to lock your live tracks together so they don't float.

We talk about natural vs. perfection podcasts, recording multiple takes, and taking your time to make sure you're comfortable and can give it your all. We talk about deciding what worked in the 'cast and what didn't and about re-ordering content and cutting what is unnecessary.

Rob blabs on and on about audio plug-ins that help you get a pro sounding 'cast...things like compressors, noise gates, high pass filters, EQ, and why not to use reverb (hint...in classic Rob form, there is no reason other than "because it sucks.")

Then, we wrap it up by chatting about regular vs. enhanced podcasts, mp3 vs mp4, and low vs. high bitrate conversions.

However, before we get into all things podcasting, we launch into our Superman Returns special in which we jabber about the ways Big Blue does and doesn't resemble the Big J. Don't worry, we'll warn you before the spoilers so you can fast forward thru 'em if you want.

Up Up and Awayyyyyy.......

How to Podcast #1: Recording

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialize correctly.

Podcasting is hot. Bottom line. These days, podcasting is the newest language of the emerging generation. If your ministry isn't doing it, you're missing out on the language of the day. Podcasting is just one more step to "being all things to all people, that they might be saved".

So, then the question becomes..."How do I podcast?" We're here to help.

This week, we start our series and talk about the basics of recording your podcast. We talk about planning your podcast length, location and type. We chat about recording over skype or iChat, and about why you should use headphones when recording.

We give the lowdown on USB mics and headsets, and talk about using GarageBand or Audacity to record your 'cast. We also talk briefly about using hardware recorders instead of software and setup suggestions for recording a live sermon or bible class and podcasting it.

But, before we dive into all that, we chat about how to help missing and exploited kids, some latest stats on friendship, and about how Rob's GSM phone may be making him dumber....

It's a fun filled episode...don't forget to call us with your questions about podcasting on the Geeks and God voicemail so we can use your question on the show...call (202) 984-3694 now!
