Rock Solid - Excellent Support - especially for geeks

Our church has been with OCS solutions for 4+ years now.
I originally went with them back when I was contemplating a Ruby on Rails application - and they were one of the few hosts at that time that actually had experience hosting Ruby apps - as well as provided Subversion repositories.

I have yet to use Rails, but I am completely sold on their support and services.

In 4+ years we have never had an outage, and they have continually upgraded their PHP and MySQL packages.

But the main thing that keeps me with them rather than going with other hosts that advertise a LOT more space and bandwidth is their support.

For questions about Subversion, Ruby, PHP bugs, increasing memory, whatever the question, whatever the time, I have ALWAYS gotten a personal response - from a geek (as in they knew what they were doing) withing 10 minutes - even at 2AM!!
Never gotten a canned answer.
Never had to answer the same stock questions about 'did you try X, Y, and Z?'.

And most problems have been resolved within 2-3 hours.

They are stable, reliable, and have excellent geek credibility!

I had a very different experience. Absolutely the worst web hosting company I have ever used.

This customer had a Rails

This customer had a Rails site on an unmanaged VDS which was having problems. Since the VDS was unmanaged, we do not

We had mainteiance on a host server on his VDS network and his VDS got rebooted. The VDS came back up, but his Rails application didn't start. While we do try to fix such issues when its a simple fix, the bottom line is the VDS is unmanaged and we do not fix issue like that without management.

The customer went into a tirade, calling us vulgar names and disparaging the southeastern US (calling us all 'idiots'). All conversations with the customer are recorded in 2 locations, both in our ticket system and in Google Mail.

I should note that the customer has later apologized.

Please consider this when considering the above review.

Wow, it bothers me a little

Wow, it bothers me a little bit that the hosting company is active here. What could that say for the rating this host has? Questionable at best.
