  • Drupal and media hosting

Yikes! Our church just hosted a major conference last week and now that I have uploaded all the recorded media to our web server, our provider says they can't handle the load. We're maxed out at the 1.2Mb limit they've imposed for their T1. Demand for content is high and users are complaining of download speeds of a mere 20Kb/s - an hour to download an MP3! Clearly, we need way more than the T1 our current host can provide.

I need a host for our media content right away -- before post-conference interest begins to drop.

Do you guys have suggestions on reputable hosting providers that can handle this kind of volume? I need about 100Gb of storage and at least 200Gb minimum of monthly data transfer to start out with. Fortunately, I had the foresight to keep our media server on a separate subdomain from our main site so it should be easy enough to redirect the traffic.

I'm thinking of using S3 at least temporarily to get us thru this hump of peak demand. Longer term though I want a provider that is also drupal friendly -- probably via a vps.

  • Looking to share a room

I'm planning on attending the G&G conference next week and am willing to share a room with another guy. If you already have a room and are interested in sharing the cost, let me know right away before I book a room myself.

BTW, I've already contacted the other two guys that posted and neither worked out.

  • Can Sections module coexist with OG?

I'm using Sections to apply different themes to various sections on our site and it works great. I'm also using Organic Groups, but I can't seem to define themes for group pages. Neither the theme specified in the group settings nor what is defined in Sections seem to take. Instead, it always uses the site's default theme.

Can these two modules coexist? Anyone have success with this?

  • Organic Groups

I discovered this site and listened to the entire Drupal series. Awesome! Finding good tutorials for Drupal (not just docs) has been frustrating and you guys have done great job of explaining how to get things going.

I'm the webmaster of a large church in Columbus, Ohio and have been working on developing a Drupal site and am having a difficult time trying to figure out how to use organic groups.

I am strongly considering using OG to have the different student ministries each have their own section complete with their own themes, calendar, photo galleries, blogs, front page, etc. Almost like a completely independent site.

So for instance the jr high section can have their own cool, rad look (or whatever term they use these days) that will be different from the main site or other groups. Same goes for a separate high school group as well as a college one.

However, I also want to have some of their important events also show up on the site's master calendar, such as summer camp. I'm stuck in that I can't figure out how to have each group have its own front page so that nothing ever gets promoted to the site's front page unless, for example, it's marked as public.

Is organic groups the way to go? Must every module have OG equivalent (e.g. OG Galleries, OG Calendar, OG Actions) for it to work right? Or should I consider using taxonomy for theming and permissions? (I understand I can't do both.)

Part of my problem is that I'm trying to learn Drupal while implementing OG at the same time so I'm not quite sure how things are supposed to work w/o OG. Plus the OG documentation is pretty lame. I'd LOOOVE to hear you guys do a special tutorial podcast on OG!

Any insight you or anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!
