Biography

I am a librarian by training, from Orange County, California, but currently work as a web and database developer. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History, as well as a Masters of Library & Information Science. My research specializations include: genealogy, history, public records, demographics, and statistics. My web specializations include database and information architecture.

In my free time, I sing and dance with Harborlites, a championship show chorus consisting of 130 women ages 15 to 82. Earlier this year, I developed a full intranet for them, including a music library, on a Drupal platform. I also volunteer as the web administrator for The Orange County Heritage Coordinating Council (also using Drupal), a local history non-profit.

I am a born again Christian, and worship at Lamb's Fellowship Lake Elsinore, where I serve and sing on the worship team, and also now serve as the web administrator for their new soon-to-be-launched Drupal-based web site.

  • How to include apostrophe in Site Name & CCK field

    Hello,

I'm working on a new web site for my church, The Lamb's Fellowship Lake Elsinore. The apostrophe in the Site Information > Name field displays my site name correctly in the header and on the browser bar. However, in site-generated emails (i.e., for moderated content), it displays funky: "The Lamb's Fellowship Lake Elsinore".

I assume this has something to do with needing to escape the apostrophe, but when I do that (usually a double single quote for MySQL) the site name displays incorrectly -- with double single quotes -- in the header and the browser.

  • Fixed Width vs. Fluid Width

    Greetings!

This is my first post (aside from comments) to G&G...

I am a developer (web/database programming & information architecture), not a designer. So, I'm hoping someone with more of a design background can weigh in as to which theme styles you prefer and why: fixed width or fluid width.

I understand that fixed width allows one to design with more control over how the site will look to every size browser, but are there other advantages or industry standard/compliance arguments for fixed-width?

    Thank you much!
