The goal of this tutorial is to explain how to get Google Maps working within your website. So, first I should explain that there are several ways to display a Google map on your site. The first way is to create a link to a map and every time someone clicks on it, it takes them to the Google site. Second way is to create a "static" map. So, the map is physically on your site, but there is no interaction. You can pan, zoom, or get directions. Third way is to create a "dynamic" map. This will require you to get a Google maps API key. But, the best part is that it's free. Go to http://code.google.com/apis/maps. Once you have the key, all you need to do is code the map. There are lots of examples on the Google site. Here's what I did. And here's my attempt to explain the code.

  • Upcoming Events List

I think it would be great if there was a place for people to list their upcoming events. I think it would be great if people listed upcoming church events, upcoming meetups, upcoming Drupal events, etc. What do you guys think?

  • Getting started with Joomla

Hello all. I'm working on our church website and have decided to see if I want to use Drupal or if i want to use Joomla. So, I was able to create a basic site using Drupal with the help of the podcasts. So, now I'm trying to do the same with Joomla and haven't found a tutorial that basically will hold my hands in developing the site. I downloaded Joomla 1.5 and have it installed, now what do I do? Is there a Geeks & God like site for Joomla? I've found a lot of tutorials that talk about theming and stuff, but nothing that says do this, then this, and so forth. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
