  • I Need Your Review

So, after using Joomla for years, I switched to Drupal and love it. I put together a site for our church that is meant to be simple, focuses on our values, and gives people up-to-date information that is easily editable without a ton of effort put into the site specifically (has google calendar import which we use as our church calendar, etc).

Anyways, I'd love to hear your critiques design-wise and more. I know there is not much interactivity for community on the website, but we have to convince the staff that they can be involved in putting things on the site, so like I said, we're starting simple.

  • Hosting for Your Podcast

If you are looking for a place to host your podcast, I'd like to tell you about sermoncloud.com. It is a really cool website that allows you to upload your podcasts as well as providing a place to listen to them. Last I checked, you could store up to a year's worth of sermons for free. It's also run by a really cool company that is passionate about helping church plants. Check it out!

  • Help Save My Drupal Impression!

So, I've been working with Joomla for about 2 years now. It took a little bit to get used to, but I have been able to kick out some pretty fun sites (Youth Site -- Personal Site). I've been able to make them pretty interactive, but I have felt held back in certain areas.

So I have been trying out Drupal for my churches new website. Eventually, I would like to try to make the site more community driven, but in the meantime, I wanted to make a site that looks clean, communicates our values, and will be open for minimal news/events added. But that is just to launch. Then I would like to create the community features like groups, etc, down the line.

I designed the look I wanted in Joomla, but would like to try to migrate it Drupal. After lots and lots of hours of messing around, I've become pretty stumped in a few areas:

    1. How can I make custom menus that only show up when you are in a certain section? For instance, when I click on something in the community section, I want the left menu to only contain the community links.
    2. Is there a way to display a certain picture if a story is a certain category? For instance post <?php if ($block->subject): ?> to display something if there is a subject.

I'm in danger of giving up on Drupal!

If you want to take a look at my site to test it out, I'll post both my Drupal and Joomla versions. They are very early so many of the links, etc do not work - and I haven't css'ed it for IE yet, so if you're using that...it probably won't display right.

    Thanks for the input/help.

  • Google Calendar Integration

I've struggled with a church calendar for a few years now. I really have enjoyed Google Calendar's easy of use, plus its sharability and the fact that its Google so its bound to only get better.

My biggest problem with Google Calendar is their pathetic attempt at displaying in a website. At anything less than full size it looks terrible (especially in month mode).

I am not a coder - I'm not paid to do web design - and really don't have the drive to spend all my free time coding up a calendar. But I was wondering if anyone has found some code that can take either a Google Calendar API or the xml feed and be able to parse it into an integrated calendar, especially one that can display a month view.

  • Podcasting Question

I am just curious what program/system you guys used to make the flash play button on your podcasts. I've looked all over and can't figure it out.
