o.k.
as you might remember I am looking for a way to maintain, develop, and work on my drupal sites... I have started using Aptana http://www.aptana.com/, and I really like it.
Next step... can I svn my website development?
How is it even possible to do with the database?
I can see how it might work with static pages, or a non modular development, but how is it possible. I am a total newbie to svn (and even cvs).
I came across this very interesting info: http://sachachua.com/wp/2008/0...
I think it would be awesome if it's possible. And seeing as how you both are so good at "breaking it down", a how-to show or informational episode would be pretty cool!
Thanks,
Sean
I have learned more about Drupal from your podcast than anywhere else... thank you.
Have I buttered you up! o.k. good.... (it's still true)
One of the biggest questions I have yet to resolve (to my satisfaction) is working on a LIVE site... upgrading, adding features, testing new features, etc... I don't want to leave a site down for several days while I tinker with options... I want to install, config, test, then deploy new features (let's say a new module or two or even three), without taking my live site down for little or no time at all. And of course, there's no way I'm testing on a live site or my live data... I'm not that nuts :\
How do you do it?
Are there any Drupal trueisims for this process?
Have you heard of or used NaviCat (to sync databases)?
Does your production environment (DB) match your presentation environment (DB)?
Do you develop online (live www.mysupersweet.com, test wwwtest.mysupersweet.com)?
Do you move individual tables from the mysql database?
Maybe pause the site, download the DB, merge with your production DB, re-upload files and the new db?
What to do?
So many options, some not so pretty!
Geeks and God, can you help us!!! (o.k. a little dramatic but it was fun to type)
Thanks,
Sean
Last I left the Drupal 6 conversation with Rob and Matt was they were going for it... and so did I... Wanted to share the results with this community because. Well, I have learned so much about Drupal and find myself drawn to Rob and Matt (in a good way). Just want to do my part to continue good conversation and promote this site and their good works!
Feel free to let me know what you think... Remember it is my first D6 build and I did have to do things quite differently... but I am happy with it, and so is the client.
Thanks!
I found this very interesting.

On a previous show Rob talked about "control issues" related to images... this could be HUGE allowing users to add images and still have some control over them.
You guys do such an awesome job of "breaking it down". I know you are both interested in a G&G Re-Design. What about a podcast series, with screen cast sister podcasts, and forum posts (innovating tomorrow) code and programming related...
Like a TV series that crosses over episodes :)
ready for this....
Redesign in Drupal 6
G&G Podcast 1: evaluating your current set-up, planning, development
ScreenCast: A backstage view of G&G, modules, config, tweaks, theming functions, custom code.
IT Blog: some code used to keep G&G going... until the upgrade was possible.
etc.....
You would have time to do the redesign, and we would all get to benefit from your experience. It's a reality show meets podcast...
