Is there a search function on this site? I haven't found one. I've had to use google with the site:geeksandgod.com tag. Is that the only way to go?

  • A free blog as a church website.

Ok, I have an off the wall question. Has anyone seen a church using a free blog service like blogspot as their church website?

The reason I ask is because, there are many churches here in Brazil that are small and poor with very few people who have computers or computer skill, yet find themselves situated near universities. Internet cafés are extremly popular and Orkut is the, far and away, biggest social networking site.

Anyhow, with this in mind, these churches don't have computers, and some don't have paid staff. They do, however, want to have a way to have an online presence.

I thought of the idea of a blog, because the header could be formatted with the address of the church, and the sidebar with pictures and other info. The blog section would provide the way to keep updated information about upcomming events and such. A podcast could be folded into this as well, I guess... using one of the free services.

    Ideas? Suggestions? Examples? Warnings?

    Thanks,
    Steve in Brazil

  • What are the rules of thumb for legal content?

I've been brainstorming about some podcast ideas for the future, but I am really ignorant of what is legal and illegal to put on the podcast. I do know that copyrighted music is definately out, but it goes beyond that... Here some ideas and maybe you can tell me what would work and what wouldn't.

    • Short or long readings from modern bible translations.
    • Short or long readings from modern books.
    • Non-original songs recorded by your praise team.
    • Older hymns recorded by your praise team... perhaps with musical remixes.
    • Short audio clips from television or radio broadcasts.

well, gotta go baby is crying... I'll get back to this post later
